About IXT SA (Pty) Ltd

IXT SA (Pty) Ltd is a privately owned South African company specialising in the design and construction of ion exchange plants in the hydrometallurgical or industrial market.  IXT offers consulting services, but has the capability of supplying IX plants either on its own, partnering with the process technology company Roytec Global or with specialist EPCM contractors.

Partnered Processes

TRAILBLAZER TECHNOLOGIES

IXT has partnered with Trailblazer Technolgies in developing a state of the art ion exchange system for treating of high salinity/acid mine drainage effluents.  IXT designed and installed a continuous counter-current (CCIX) elution circuit that allows the client to elute both the cation and anion resins using minimal rinse and wash waters, and in this way achieving maximum product concentrations. The feasibility of the whole process was contingent around the high process efficiencies of the CCIX system.

EMEW CORPORATION

IXT is working with Emew Corporation from Vancouver, Canada to exploit the potential recovery of metals from various low grade streams, using ion exchange to recover the metals and then to produce metals using Emew electrowinning technology.

The IX resin is eluted with the spent electrolyte from the high efficiency Emew EW cells, resulting in a unique and efficient process for recovery of base metals and precious metals.

CHAMBISHI METALS COBALT CIRCUIT NICKEL EXTRACTION PLANT

IXT personnel were responsible for the piloting, as well as the design and pre-commissioning of the CCIX ion exchange plant at Chambishi Metals in Zambia.  The IX system was designed to remove Nickel from the cobalt electrolyte using Dow 4195 bispicolylamine resin.

CCIX technology was used primarily to reduce the resin inventory of the system

PMC NICKEL RECOVERY PLANT

IXT personnel were responsible for the design and commissioning of the Nickel recovery plant at Palabora Mining in South Africa, constructed by Roytec Global. The plant included a fixed bed Copper guard system, as well as a continuous counter-current Nickel recovery IX system.
The Ni IX process involved recovery of Ni from a 5 gpl Ni neutralised stream from the COPPER TANK HOUSE liberator cells, and upgrading the Ni to more than 60 gpl Ni in the product. The nickel is recovered by crystallisation.

ANGLO PLATINUM ZINC REMOVAL PLANT

IXT was responsible for the process design of the zinc removal fixed bed IX plant at Anglo Platinum Base Metals plant. The plant utilises Lanxess VPOC 1026 D2EHPA impregnated resin.

ANGLO PLATINUM NICKEL REMOVAL PLANT

IXT was involved with the study for the nickel removal fixed bed IX plant at Anglo Platinum Base Metals plant. The plant was designed to extract Nickel from the sodium sulphate evaporator circuit.

COBALT RECOVERY PLANT

IXT has recently conducted a feasibility study for Cobalt recovery for an international mining company utilizing ion exchange for purification of the Co stream, as well as a CCIX system for Co recovery and concentration.
